"In
summer 6729 (1221) Grand Prince Yuri Vsevolodovich founded
a city on the Oka mouth and gave it the name of Novgorod
Nizhny (Low)."

history of Nizhny Novgorod began.

newly founded settlements have the word "New" in its name
("Novgorod" stands for "New City"), while the word "Low"
reflected its Lowland location.
